The customer can pay more money for the same things as before and this infringes on the customers' rights. With market monopoly, certain types of goods may lose the retail outlet and then disappear (New Statesman, 2003). However, large supermarket chains cannot monopolize the market because there are so many companies competing around the world. For example, in the United Kingdom, many local supermarket chains compete, such as Tesco, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer. Besides these local companies, there are still a few foreign companies like Metro and Walmart. Different companies can become dominant in different areas, such as Walmart in Latin, North and Central America, while Tesco and Carrefour in Europe (Esteban, Luciano, & Daniel, 2014).
