Europe became very wealthy after knowingly being able to transport goods from different regions, within or outside the continent. To create fire, coal or wood are the most used fuels, although oil is also used. Fire is created to produce steam which turns the wheels. “People could move faster and more efficiently on land and water thanks to steam locomotives and steamboats.” (The steam engine) Coal had great importance during the industrial revolution. Instead of using an expensive fuel like wood, coal was a cheaper alternative that worked as well or better than any fuel provided. Coal developed the European mining industry when people knew its importance. It was capable of powering different technologies and machines. Mining is essential because a large amount of materials people use are made from minerals or rely on minerals for the production of new inventions.
