She is a marketing assistant, but she yearns for a promotion to marketing manager so she can show her family, especially her overachieving cousin Kerry, that she can succeed. She was offered the opportunity to be a representative of Panther Cola during a deal in Glasgow. She accepts the offer hoping it would help her get a promotion. The deal is rejected and ultimately ends in total disaster. Later, Emma gets on the plane and drowns her sorrows. In the middle of the return flight, the plane was struck by turbulence. Emma, drunk, believes she is going to die and reveals all her secrets to a stranger, who is a surprisingly good listener. Subsequently, the passengers are reassured: the plane is fine.
