Vocational and technical schools offer these individuals a second chance to find the career they will love. According to fifty-year-old Jeff Martinelli, “for a guy like me, without college, it got pretty dark there” (quoted by Egan 106). Martinelli spent most of his life operating heavy machinery at Kaiser Aluminum until it closed a few years ago. He started working there right out of high school and did not pursue further studies. Today, he has neither certification nor diploma. It is almost impossible to find a good job without a degree or certification. Vocational schools offer a second chance to people like Martinelli. It may take as little as one year and complete a program at a technical school to earn a certificate. With this certificate, he will be able to provide for his family again. In a technical school, there are not only young people straight out of high school. According to Fox Business, interest in vocational schools extends to high school students, 4-year graduates and people who want to improve their skills or change careers. This means that everyone has the chance to get the job they are passionate about, regardless of their previous background.
