(7) KARNATAKA SCENARIO • A cross-sectional study was carried out on the oral hygiene status among school children belonging to various socio-economic statuses of Belagum city aged 12 years. -15 years in 2010. Oral hygiene status was established according to OHI-S. The results show that the majority of children from higher socio-economic status have good oral hygiene (mean (standard deviation) 0.67 ± 0.38). The average OHI-S score for men (1.82 ± 0.79) and women (1.18 ± 0.83) shows that women had good hygiene compared to men. This difference is statistically significant (z-28.68, p<0.001). The knowledge imparted through the school health program would go a long way in maintaining oral health.. (21)
