  • Essay / Iowa State University Memorial Union Center

Students should know about this place when they are on campus. This place was known as the soul of the student body of the ISU campus, “Memorial Union”. MU was located in front of the halfway line. It was now the largest center of activity and the central building on campus. Opened in September 1928, the Memorial Union was a building used as a memorial to the sacrificed soldiers of the State of Iowa. As a government-grant school, Iowa State University did not have an entertainment center until 1920, as the university had only academic buildings and agricultural buildings. There is no room for students and faculty to gather for cultural, entertainment, or social events. So people are starting to think about a building that could be used for these purposes. Finally, when the Memorial Union project was settled; ISU decided to use the building not only as a memorial for honorable soldiers, but also as a super center for students. Today, it has become the memorial, living art and student life camp. The best place for students to spend their time.Gold Star Hall is the "memorial" of the Memorial Union. From World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Somalia, as well as Iraq. The Gold Star Hall represents the memorial of the entire building. The lobby is just past the front door of the building, the light rarely turned off, the brave names were on the limestone in excellent condition. The flag in the photo was the American flag and the Iowa state flag, which represent honor and respect to the sacrificed soldiers. There was a tradition in Mu: whenever the University sent men to war, they would place a blue tag to hold the flags. When there are sacrifices reported, the names will be engraved in the limestone and the label will change to gold. ...... middle of paper ...... cafeteria with more than 100 seats is available, so the environment will actually help people be more engaging with their friends. Additionally, many events were held in the building, such as ISU After Dark, and very important speeches were given inside the building. The most exciting event I experienced was orientation. The event took place in the “Sun Room”, which can accommodate a party room and a speech auditorium. Outside the room there are soft sofas available for students to sit and read, and the drinks bar won't be far away, so why not grab a drink and sit down to read a novel. Overall, Mu is the perfect place for memorial, art, and entertainment to enjoy. A landscape created for students.
