Essay / Plane Types - 2143
Description: Shape DescriptionOne of the main form contrasts in this piece is the plan type. Shot types are important to video composition because they give the work a sense of variety. This piece uses extreme close-ups, wide shots, medium shots, two shots, as well as multiple camera angles. Extreme close-ups are used in this piece to focus on an important aspect of the video. Close-ups fill the entire composition to focus intensely on a main scene. A wide shot is used when the play transitions to a new scene or foreshadows what is going to happen in an upcoming scene. Medium shots are closer than a wide shot and are used to help the viewer become part of the action. An example of a two shot would be used when the shot shows two people side by side or if the scene involves dialogue. Finally, different camera angles are used at high, low, and eye level depending on the scene. Another main form contrast is lighting. Three light sources were used in this room, each with different brightness levels. The lights illuminate the decor around the stage. In some scenes the lighting is dimmed, other times the light is closer to the camera making the scene brighter. Lighting is also used to emphasize depth and also to highlight focal points. Lighting not only helps make important parts of the room stand out, but also enhances the composition. Besides the camera angles and lighting, another important visual feature of this piece is the lens focus. Some shots of the piece are intentionally in focus and other parts are intentionally blurry, broken and out of focus. When the video goes from focused to blurry, it depicts a scene of sleep and/or illness. Using the focus of ...... middle of paper ...... vibrant color, this would then create a higher contrast. Overall, the images stand out from the font. On the contrary, the font size in the video was very different, and to attract viewers' attention, more consistency in font and color was needed. When the viewer cannot read the information, it is useless and becomes a negative upswing for the entire project. To modify these scenes I could work more on verbal communication. No words are spoken to help make sense. The viewer must interpret only from the actions. The last change I would make is to not overcomplicate the video. The video has many angles that become unimportant and confusing. For the next project, I will simplify the camera angles and lighting. I need to step back from this project, learn from it, and produce stronger work that has more positives than negatives..
