  • Essay / Essay on Family and Individuality - 1335

Being in a family has its advantages; you always have a shoulder to cry on or a hand to help you up. A family is not just a person's parents or siblings, a family is a group of people who care for each other and work together as a team to better the group as a whole. Being part of a family isn't always easy or fun; there are ups and downs, like everything. For example, two people may have two completely different opinions and begin to argue, the rest of the family then begins to weigh in on the situation and members begin to take sides and divide. Now a healthy and rational family will come to a mutual agreement and continue their activities. However, some dysfunctional families will continue to quarrel and cause more conflict, resulting in a divided family with more problems than at the beginning. A University of California, Davis study found that young people who have positive relationships with their parents tend to have stable, satisfying relationships in their early marriages as well as in their romantic relationships. The researchers, who began studying 265 people in the 1990s, found that caring parents contributed to the future success of their children's young adult romantic relationships. A family brings its members together and when people come together, they can do anything. However, being in a family can also prevent a person from being who they really want.
