Taken from the article on Environmental Impact, this passage provided insight into the topic as it gives specific examples that Atwood constructed in Oryx and Crake about the environmental issues that arise in Snowman's fictional world. The general argument about environmentalism in Oryx and Crake has to do with human manipulation of nature. Through its various examples (e.g.: genetic modification of animals), it demonstrates the human tendency to alter and change our environment so that it better meets our needs. In the world presented in Oryx and Crake, humans have stopped caring about the ethical issues surrounding genetic engineering; they started thinking only about their own needs, instead of thinking about the needs of others.
