    However, there was no evidence in any artist's works to suggest social conflict, as such the Impressionists were primarily apolitical. They did not allow such an implication of pattern in their work, preferring to let their canvases speak for themselves and the gentle insinuations left open to the interpretation of the viewer. Their choice of subject made it virtually impossible to project any political message. The Impressionists conveyed virtually no feeling in their work, the process of selecting subjects seemed haphazard at best, although of course each artist had their own justification for what they chose to do.
