IntroductionIn today's society, many American companies are globalizing and looking to contract outside the United States to obtain economic advantages. However, the globalized world faces challenges just like non-globalized businesses. Some of these challenges include socio-cultural views, values, ethics, etc. Thus, Hunter-Worth's case study will help me understand how socio-cultural differences create problems that influence globalized businesses and their management. One example of sociocultural differences that this article will focus on is communication. There are many barriers to communication and these barriers can arise at any point in the communication process. Communication barriers can cause messages to become unclear and therefore risk wasted time and/or money by causing uncertainty and misunderstandings that could escalate into something much more serious. Therefore, I will be able to relate my personal assessment of communication apprehension to this case study to learn how to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures. Analysis After assessing the problem, it appears that Chuck Moore has a disconnect with Mexico Plant Manager Vicente Ruiz when it comes to effective communication, in the case of Hunter-Worth. The problem began when Moore faced productivity delays at the Mexico plant. Due to production delays relative to supply and demand, Chuck took it upon himself to contact Vicente. Little did Chuck know, Vicente doesn't respond to his own emails, but his receptionist handles them for him. The problem got worse because Chuck felt Vicente should have communicated with him directly. It is important for global companies to know how to communicate with employees and customers from different cultures in order to fulfill the organization's mission and create value. Through the Personal Assessment of Communication Apprehension, I was able to recognize that I have a low level of apprehension and am able to communicate successfully. I believe effective communication is essential in business and when conducting business. With this understanding and growing knowledge, I will communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, when introduced into various environments, as this is the most common form of communication in the world..
