Performance Management at the University of Ghana It is commendable that the Balme Library seeks to improve its diverse clientele through several initiatives, including the improvement of its management system performance. Aguinis (2013) highlighted the importance of the link between an organization's mission and objectives and the performance management plan. There are two prerequisites that Aguinis (2013) lists before a performance management system can be implemented: knowledge of the organization's strategic objectives and knowledge of the position. Increased customer focus through a strong performance management plan will be very helpful to the organization in increasing efficiency in this regard, as this objective will be clearly linked to the role of each position within the organization. That being said, the lack of job analysis will hinder any progress in this area. The reasons to prove this statement as well as the proposed improvement plans will now be discussed. Job Analysis Considering that knowledge of a job is fundamental to the creation of a performance management system in combination with an understanding of the strategic direction of the organization, an essential element A fundamental element of the performance management system performance management, task analysis, is missing in the Balme library (Aguinis, 2013). Job analysis allows an organization to understand the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed to adequately perform a specific position (Aguinis, 2013). Job analysis is a systematic exploration of a job, the skills, resources, abilities, knowledge, and training needed to fill a position (Human Resource Management, n.d.). This failure is costly as talent resources are wasted, suitable candidates may be overlooked or discouraged from applying, and budgets may be depleted due to high levels of employee turnover (Baldwin, 2013).
