  • Essay / Sound technician: Hobby or profession - 1766

Music is one of my great passions, I listen to it constantly 24/7. I don't play any instruments or sing, but I know I want a career that involves music, and producing it seems like the only way I can think of that I would enjoy. So I want to become a sound technician, also called a sound engineer. Audio technicians are essentially the nuts and bolts of music production: they set up equipment, constantly adjust knobs, and check mics. They make sure everything goes smoothly and always consult with their artists so they are happy with the end result. To become a sound technician, there are actually no formal education requirements. As long as one has a high school diploma or GED, one can study to become a sound technician by training under a professional technician. Some may be self-taught, especially if they are already interested in computers and technology. But taking technology and composition or music theory classes is really helpful, as is learning to play an instrument. Most people looking for a career in audio or sound engineering would choose to go to technical school or complete a year of vocational training. Many community colleges and large universities offer courses. Technical institutes generally offer the best programs lasting 9 to 12 months. Through them, a person can earn certificates and associate degrees in audio technology, audio production, and engineering. Each job involves certain skills and abilities, depending on the engineering path a person chooses to follow. Important skills such as listening to what others say, taking the time to understand and understand what they mean and want, and asking that...... middle of paper ...... ic and mix all the elements in a single song. But during this session we also mastered the tracks, meaning all the songs were final copies and were put through another compression and EQ process and made into CD copies. My last session with Kevin at Opal Studio involved working with a brand new client, Daniel Hamm. For this session, we tracked the drums and bass, set up our mics, and recorded the drums and bass for each song. Again, this was a very tedious process; all that is done is monitor the levels and make sure everything is running smoothly. Overall my experience was very fun. I loved working with all the bands and artists. It's a very social, fun job, but technology has been killing me and a lot of it is pretty tedious. Honestly, I don't know if I would actually make a career out of it, it would be a fun hobby, but I don't see myself making a career out of it..
