Essay / Reflective Essay: The Most Important Person in History
At the end of my honors history class, I was asked to write an article about the most important person or thing in all the story. To write this essay, I first had to define the importance of the word "meaningful" and how it would be represented throughout my paper, then I had to explore everything I had learned over the four last years of history lessons and find something. it had an impact on my life. Once I voted on the most important person, I had to create a timeline of events inspired by the person, then conclude that without each of those moments, or people, the world could not, or would not. would not have been the same, therefore creating the most important person in history. Then, to effectively convey meaning, gaps in interpretation needed to be filled with questions from us, the students. The questions that were asked and answered primarily focused on how to complete the Chicago format. Additionally, the entire essay had to be written at a college level to please the instructor. The instructor is deeply trained in social sciences, so this was another reason why the timeline of the article had to be extremely precise. With all of this in mind, even with a free-form prompt, the expectations for this essay were at the highest level. From previous assignments written for this class, I knew how to write my assignment to please her, the instructor. I was to leave no questions unanswered or thoughts incomplete, so that the reader could finish the article with no doubt that the person I chose was the most important person in history. While attempting to provide accuracy to the instructor, a strong command of rhetorical devices was necessary. Ethos was built to show that I could be responsible enough to research my prompt in great detail, pathos was also often used to make the audience believe my point of view, then the use of logos was to write the document in chronological order. With all the tools available to complete this trial, the last thing we needed was a quiet location with decent space. An early mistake I made was spending too much time on research and not enough time on writing the essay, but it wasn't out of my hands. Since I have a strong command of persuasion, I didn't need to spend much time to conclude each paragraph with pathos. The hardest part of writing this essay was focusing on this topic. It was very easy to focus on the stories of the people who influenced my main character. So, as I got closer to finishing my article, I realized that I was approaching the m page limit, with content still to be explained. Once I completed the draft of the article, I had to go back to revise and edit to ensure that all of my main points were included to prove my thesis stated in the first.
