  • Essay / An Analysis of the Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy

    A thrush is a songbird, usually brown or black, and sings its songs extremely loudly. Hardy describes the thrush in the poem saying: “in a full and boundless song of joy; an old thrush, frail, emaciated and small, with a plume swollen by the breath, had thus chosen to throw its soul into the growing darkness” (Page 1080.) What I like about the thrush in this poem is the fact that the thrush still sings loudly in the middle of winter. The thrush was old, as Hardy said, and it still sounded as loud as when it was younger. It can easily be seen that this particular bird does not give up so easily, it does not give in. In a way, this bird looks like me. Sometimes I went through tough times, like the bird, and I stayed positive and never gave up. I'm just not one to give up, I fight until the end. Whether it's school or my own life, I never give up. Like the bird, even if no one listens to me, I willingly show my pride and stay strong. Obviously Darkling Thrush Lily of the Valley helped me stay
