From his world-famous novel Alice in Wonderland and its poems to his creative work in mathematics, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson – widely known under his pen name Lewis Carroll – has become famous in the world of literature due to his playful and of his absurd rhymes. Carroll's career was so successful that he became the second most referenced author, after Shakespeare. Despite his success, many people are unaware of the importance of Lewis Carroll in his time and ours. The success of Lewis Carroll's bizarre novel Alice in Wonderland can be described by analyzing Carroll's life, criticism of his groundbreaking novel, and discovering the cultural impact the novel had in its time.
