Systems theory, as stated earlier, allows us to better understand the behavior that takes place within a family. If a family negatively affects a client, that doesn't mean the theory doesn't work. This means that the environment is affecting something the family does and changes must be made to create a positive outcome. The example used was the concept of goal orientation in a family. If a family does not have a goal, it does not mean that they are not following this theory, it means that the social worker must identify what is happening in the subsystem and why there is no goal. Positively oriented objectives. This theory assists in the development of a person and family by examining the social worker's situation to perceive why a client has certain issues or problems due to how they were raised in a particular way based on the 'environment.
