Essay / Technology in the Classroom - 1293
As we move forward into the 21st century, our society is rapidly becoming more and more integrated with technology. The creation of new laptops and tablets, as well as easy access to new and improved phones, have also pushed younger generations to take an interest in these advancements. The rapid and widespread implementation of these technological advances has shaped the new way we conduct our daily lives, as well as the way knowledge is processed and taught in our classrooms. Today's technology provides teachers, as well as students, with teaching and learning opportunities that were impossible in the past. Technology is used as a tool to promote human learning, not just calculators, but also smart boards, tablets (iPads), video cameras, portable digital assistants and, of course, computers. They can be used as tools to create educational materials or as presentation devices to deliver information in ways never before possible. Although technology can be useful in facilitating communication and industrial development, its appropriate use in classrooms can be crucial for students in the 21st century. Technology in classrooms can start at a young age, even in early childhood classrooms. Research by Clements and Sarama (2003) found that preschoolers' words per minute were twice as high on the computer as in any other activity, including blocks, art, plasticine or other games (Hertzog and Klein 25). Nowadays, we can see young students starting to create PowerPoint presentations from a very young age, some as young as six years old, which only prepares them for the real world. These young students are quickly learning skills that will allow them to succeed more quickly than in technology-free classrooms. Th...... middle of paper ......004): 75-79.Business Source Complete.
