Essay / Why pay college athletes? - 643
Everyone felt some sort of excitement after winning something. Nothing matters except victory without any thought of profit. Recently, a question has been debated; should students who play sports be rewarded with money? I believe college athletes should not be paid for a variety of reasons: they receive scholarships, benefits, and it would create problems with college expenses. College athletes dedicate their time and hard work to the sport they have worked so hard to be respectable. College athletics is all about heart, drive and passion to succeed in sports and in life. Many college athletes love the game and it has led them to attend a university where they can prove their talent. There would be no money left for schools to get tutoring, hire better teachers, or acquire updated technology. In reality, not all universities have the means to pay athletes. Some sports teams may need to be cut so the university can have enough money to pay for popular teams. As a result, the elimination of sports teams will limit the ability of student-athletes to join sports teams. Additionally, student-athletes already receive benefits, such as scholarships and other aid from their school. The scholarship contains...... middle of paper ......cusant about getting an education as well as their sport; while professionals focus solely on their sport. I believe college athletes should not be paid for a variety of reasons: they receive scholarships, benefits, and it would create problems with college expenses. Paying student-athletes would create major problems that universities could face. This could lead to athletic departments becoming more of a business instead of helping athletes receive an education. Student-athletes have more passion for their sport because they fight to play. Spectators love college athletes because the athletes play for the school, not the money. Paying college athletes to play might benefit the players, but it would only create more problems for other athletes, students and universities. The innocence of college sports would disappear if college athletes were paid.
