Essay / My Kindest and Most Affectionate Memories of My Grandparents' House
Some of my earliest and most fond memories of my youth are of my grandparents' house where I played, loved and laughed frequently. When my mother remarried, we moved about an hour away and I didn't get to see them as often. So sometimes when I visited them it was something exciting. One of Grandma's favorite meals to cook during the colder months is chili. Everything about this time was special to me, not just because the chili was delicious, but it's a time when my family comes together and enjoys each other's company. Even the memory of that smell of chili cooking on his stove still makes me think of sweaters, family, warmth and love. I remember my uncles and my grandfather crowded together on a small sofa at my grandparents' house.
