  • Essay / Globalization and Women's Gender - 1899

This semester's course was largely based on the problematic ideas and events that revolve around the idea of globalization. This term, idea or concept presents many negativities regarding women's gender. Despite the media and the widespread representation that the idea of globalization is a positive thing for the world, in many cases it causes great negativity for people, especially women. Globalization can apply to many aspects of culture, but it often applies in terms of economics. In the patriarchal world in which we talk about economics, it is usually a male-centered conversation, because men generally occupy leading roles in the job market, even though many women in this country and far beyond the borders in other countries are highly educated and capable. to carry out such work. Many of these women who seek to be educated and succeed in the workforce do not achieve their goals and fall back into their gender roles, which goes against their personal goals. This was demonstrated very well by the case study “Clashing Dreams: Highly Educated Overseas Brides and Low-Wage US Husbands” written by Hung Cam Thai. Not only do the wives discussed in this essay fail in their personal goals, but they also fail in the goals that Estelle B. Freedman writes about in her book No Turning Back. In this work, she talks a lot about transnational feminism and the goals that need to be achieved to achieve equal rights for transnational women. The connection between Freedman's work and the study of Vietnamese brides marrying transnationally is undeniable, not in terms of positive outcomes, but in terms of negative outcomes. By linking these two works, we will not only show what needs to be done for women to achieve the equal rights...... middle of paper ...... that are currently in place in the modern world. The structure created by colonialism and still imposed by globalization must be broken and replaced by a new structure. Women who think they are escaping the oppression they live in by crossing the border are only adding fuel to the fire. Instead of fighting the problem, they simply try to run away from it, even if they don't succeed. A new ideology and structure of superiority must be formed in order to end the oppression and problematic lives faced by women across the world.
