Essay / Anton King: On the Writing of Stephan King - 1710
In this quote, King refers to the reader as you, which makes the reader feel like King is speaking directly to them. This type of individualized attention from the author can motivate the reader even more because it makes it seem like King is speaking directly to the reader. This is an effective strategy because, again, King speaks directly to the reader, allowing the effect to be stronger. The first person point of view also gives the reader King's thoughts on his strategies and just allows it to be more personal overall. For example: “The problem was teaching. I loved my colleagues and I loved the children..." (73). It is in the autobiographical section of the book that he talks about the problems he had with writing and that teaching took too long. The first person point of view allows him to give his own thoughts instead of someone having to read "Mr. King loved his colleagues and loved children." It seems impersonal and the reader may not feel the same connection when reading this because it's just stating that instead of understanding Stephan King's thoughts. I just feel the personal connection
