Essay / 1873 Lever Action Model - Winchester Repeating Action Rifle 1900. I decided to go to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for inspiration. The museum has a small exhibit called “The Cattle Raisers Museum.” There I photographed an 1873 lever action – Winchester repeating action rifle. I thought this model of rifle had some significance given that it is in the museum, especially when there are many models of Winchester rifles around and still in use today. I also knew it was American made, the only amount of information I knew before doing research. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a museum curator with specific knowledge of this rifle. The rifle itself was encased in glass, but appeared to be in good condition as it was one hundred and thirty-eight years old. I assume whoever the museum received the rifle from took very good care of it. The information provided on the materials used to create the weapon is said to be metal and wood. The wooden handle of the rifle was a rich cherry color, and the barrel of the gun appeared somewhat short. The rifle overall seemed a bit small in my opinion, but I'm sure the smaller gun was easier to carry. The texture of the rifle seemed smooth; it showed normal wear and tear. The rifle was manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, which was formerly the New Haven Arms Company and before that the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. You have to ask yourself why so many name changes? The Winchester Repeating Arms Company would not have succeeded without Oliver Fisher Winchester. Winchester originally gained some wealth by producing dress shirts in a medium of paper...... The 1873 Winchester rifle was the "rifle that won the West". » www.uberti.com. Np, nd Web.
