Result of one's decisionsIt is difficult to make decisions in life knowing that it is up to you to make the right choice without knowing what the outcome will be result. In “Gregory” by Panos Ionannides, the soldier must decide whether to follow headquarters or follow his own instincts. Additionally, in "Just Lather, That's All", the barber also has to make a choice in a short time: to kill Torres or not. Additionally, he had no orders to kill Torres, it was his own decision to kill someone. The protagonists of "Gregory" and "Just Lather, That's All" both face moral dilemmas throughout the stories. In the short story “Gregory” by Panos Ionannides, the soldier decides to follow his ethics. In the story “Just Lather That's All” by Hernando Tellez, the barber chose to go towards his morals. Both the soldier and the barber describe that they both have to make wise decisions. The short stories “Just Lather, That's All” and “Gregory” are under pressure from their own instincts or someone else's orders. The pressure that the main characters face in the story is that they must be forced to make a careful decision because it can affect someone's life at any moment. The soldier finds himself in a position where he must decide whether he will kill his daring friend or face the headquarters with many risks. “Gregory” is a story of loyalty, friendship and irony in which the soldier realizes that his situation is difficult. The message from headquarters was very clear and stated: “As soon as the execution of Lieutenant Rafel is announced, the hostage Grégory will be shot and his body will have to be hanged from a telegraph pole in the main street as an exemplary punishment” (Ioannides, 4). This quote describes the... middle of paper ...... In both stories, both characters make moral and ethical decisions. The choices one makes can result in such a huge outcome, either good or bad. The similarity of the stories of the soldier and the barber lies in their loyalty, as they both thought about the consequences of killing someone and the results. At the same time, they both think of themselves before anyone else, because the soldier knew that if he didn't kill Gregory, he would be in danger. While the barber knows that if he killed Torres, he would be killed by the revolutionaries. People have both morals and ethics, which they must conclude knowing what outcome is best for them or the situation they find themselves in. Outcomes of good or evil can ultimately disappear knowing that that individual's choices can arise and drive them. to a reasonable moral or ethical choice.
