When it comes to choosing a potential partner, a woman or man can use these cues to determine whether potential partners should be pursued or avoided. This could help prevent possible rapes, domestic violence and any other acts of a violent nature. Two hundred participants took part in this research, one hundred men and one hundred women were recruited through online websites. The study used digitally altered images of individuals with feminine or masculine traits to attempt to determine which image shape participants might or might not perceive as dominant. Fifty white male images and fifty white female images were chosen for this experiment. Twenty of these images were selected at random and altered using a computer program to make the posing individuals either more feminine or more masculine. Participants were shown twenty pairs of images and were asked to determine which image in each pair seemed to be more dominant. After two smaller studies to determine the masculinity and dominance of the images, the main study involved determining which of around 100 images were the most dominant. Within my small group of friends and family, child and spousal abuse was unfortunately common. I liked this article because it tries to explain why there is a lot of violence between individuals. Using altered images to study dominant cues is a valuable asset to the future of society. As individuals become more aware of these facial cues, they will be more likely to avoid physical violence or other types of physical harm. These types of dominant cues would also aid in future mate selection, making it easier and safer for women and men to choose non-aggressive or dominant partners. This vital information could help potential victims avoid possible rape, domestic violence and other acts of violence.
