Twenty of these images were selected at random and altered using a computer program to make the posing individuals either more feminine or more masculine. Participants were shown twenty pairs of images and were asked to determine which image in each pair seemed to be more dominant. Using altered images to study dominant cues is a valuable asset to the future of society. As individuals become more aware of these facial cues, they will be more likely to avoid physical violence or other types of physical harm. These types of dominant cues would also aid in future mate selection, making it easier and safer for women and men to choose non-aggressive or dominant partners. This vital information could help potential victims avoid possible rape, domestic violence and other acts of violence.
