Essay / Pros and Cons of Long Distance Relationships - 1880
When I entered my long distance relationship I was nervous, I had heard how unlikely long distance relationships were to work long term . The first thing I did, living in the Internet age, was do a Google search to see exactly what I could find to soothe my nerves. It's clear from all the resources available - the search for "long-distance relationship information" returned over 7.3 million results - that many other people face similar fears. If we search for people seeking help by typing “long distance support group,” we get 5.6 million results. Clearly, people lack security in their long-distance relationships (hereinafter referred to as LDR) and seek comfort from others on the Internet. I was shocked to find that the statistics suggest that the differences in success rates between LDRs and close relationships (hereafter referred to as LDRs (like CPRs) are not enough to be significant. Indeed, “individuals living in LDRs demonstrate levels of relationship satisfaction, intimacy, trust, and commitment nearly identical to the levels demonstrated by individuals involved in geographically close relationships, regardless of time spent together” (Mietzner). So why do LDRs have such a bad reputation? According to CJ Arabia of examiner.com, this is because "being in a long distance relationship isn't for everyone." This is why long-distance relationships have such a bad reputation. They are hard, painful, difficult, challenging and lonely. I haven't found any sources that disagree with the statement that traveling long distances presents challenges that are not present in a CPR, but if this is true one has to ask why it shouldn't not lead to increased difficulties..... . middle of paper ......
