  • Essay / I want to become a forester - 1376

Foresters contribute to the preservation of private and public forests while managing the distribution of standing timber to various companies. I find this profession very interesting because they manage important resources and protect important habitats. I became interested in this profession when I learned the importance of the role of forestry in the exploitation of public and private forests. Without forestry to regulate logging companies, forests could be stripped bare and destroyed. Habitats would be destroyed, animals would die, climates would change and without the replanting of trees, the timber industry would eventually close its doors. I want to become a forester to ensure that happens one day. Many people don't realize how important wood is to our society. It's the job of foresters to understand how important it is for humans to conserve and protect the ecosystems around them, but also to ensure that people will get this all-important resource. I can't wait to find out how foresters do what they do and what steps they took to achieve it. I see myself working in this department because I love the outdoors and find the management and protection of forests important and essential. Without logging, there would be no wood products available for human use, and without forestry, there would be no limit to forest consumption. I chose to complete my internship experience in forestry because I want to make a difference in the environment. Living in Jewell, there are lots of trees and lots of logging around. I always wondered how loggers knew what types of trees and what areas were difficult to harvest. When I discovered that foresters played a major role in this area, I wanted to know more. The part of forestry that interests me most is the collection and culling of timber... middle of paper ... this is for the taxing districts of Clatsop County and for the citizens of Oregon.” Williams mentioned the area he grew up in, which happens to be Jewell. The same area I grew up in. I have seen the beauty of the forests here and look forward to one day eventually being able to manage the same forests that Mr. Williams, a very experienced forester, considers to be very productive. Being a forester is no walk in the park. Unless you work for a state or federal government, you could literally walk through and manage parks and forests. It is important to be in good physical shape; hiking in the undergrowth is not always easy. After my research, I became even more interested in the forestry department. I look forward to completing twenty hours of job shadowing in the coming months and hope to learn even more about working in forestry and conservation..
