Essay / The Advancement of Photography - 1111
People see images every day and everywhere. They are in newspapers, on walls as art, on billboards too. Photographs didn't exist not so long ago, but when they were developed, they took the world by storm. Nearly 200 years later, people have a camera in their phone and can print photos wirelessly directly from our phones or cameras. The invention of photography was an advancement that not only changed humanity, but also changed the world as it evolved. Photography developed towards the end of the Industrial Revolution and the beginning of the Victorian era. It is not surprising that photography also developed during the Industrial Revolution, given that many developments took place during this period. The 19th century was also known as the Romantic Era, where people revolted against the political and social regularity of the Enlightenment (Rosenblum, 2010). This era took a radical turn towards realism through the art of photography, as it brought a realistic vision. sense of what it captures rather than looking at a painting through the perceptions and interpretations of an artist. Photography was not invented by one person but by many. Several advances led to the first photograph and they began way back in history, when Greek philosophers were still alive (Goldberg, 1991). These philosophers described a theory that showed the principles of the camera. Another discovery made in 1727 by Johann Heinrich Schulze showed that silver nitrate darkened when exposed to light (Rosenblum, 2010). Together, these two advances led to the first photographic image in 1814 by Joseph Niepce, but the photograph faded within hours and could not be preserved. Twenty-three years old Louis Daguerre took a photo...... middle of paper ......before it was presented to the public. Later in 1935, Kodak's research team invented Kodachrome film, the first publicly available color film. Next, Kodak released Kodacolor negative-positive film which became the most famous and popular film used for amateur photography at the time (Photography, 1990). Today, in the 21st century, photographs are very easy to obtain since we all have phones with cameras. , digital cameras, waterproof cameras, webcams, etc. Photography is everywhere, from billboards in Time Square to photos in homes, photography has truly changed the world (Photography, 2010).
