Paradise Lost opens in the media: Satan is in a dire situation. He was defeated and condemned to the fiery lake of hell from heaven for disobedience to God, the same original sin committed by Adam and Eve. When he was an angel, Satan wanted others to admire him rather than God. He decided to rebel after God declared his son to be above all other angels in glory and managed to persuade a third of God's angels to join him in his rebellion. Together they declared war on God and all who resided in his perfect paradise. In Milton's Paradise Lost, Satan is first described as the hero of the epic; However, Satan soon begins to transform into various beasts, eventually transforming into a large serpent, making his true nature apparent to readers. In Book I, Milton portrays Satan as a strong and imposing figure with great abilities as a leader and public statesman. . He seems to be a grandiose character, who is not afraid of being eternally damned and who is not angered by horrible figures such as Chaos or Death.
