  • Essay / Gasoline Cars vs Electric Cars - 1667

I bet you didn't know that the first cars made were all primarily electric. But over time, gas-powered cars have become more popular over the years. There were few to no electric cars available as time progressed. Everyone thought gasoline vehicles were more practical than electric vehicles. I believe gasoline vehicles are better because gasoline cars have more functional capabilities. The range of electric vehicles is low compared to gasoline vehicles. Electric vehicles don't work very well in cold weather. You will need to charge your car almost every evening. You will only be able to drive at 80 mph. If you go up a big hill, your range decreases. electric vehicles (rather electric vehicles) pollute, but they do not pollute in the same way as gasoline cars. The main disadvantage of electric vehicles is that they generally cannot travel more than 100 miles before their batteries need to be charged (Harverdink, 1). While on the other hand, I only need to fill up with gas every 200 miles. Now, if you've ever been to Sitka, Alaska, of course you realize that from one end of the island to the other is only about 14 miles, which is just the road main. There are all kinds of little roads that lead to more houses and shops. Being a teenager like me, in a small town, all you can do is navigate to save time. My boyfriend and I travel about 100 miles a day. Just going back and forth and back and forth. Then we have at least one more day to do it before we have to fill the tank again. So for me, I think it's better to have a gas car than an electric one. I think gas vehicles are better because they run better when it's cold. Cold weather hurts electric vehicle battery performance. When the outside heat drops below freezing, the usable range drops to 20 miles or less, making the electric vehicle virtually unusable in cold climates (Peters, 3). We live in Alaska, so the winters here are pretty freezing or below, so an EV here probably wouldn't be good in the winter. Additionally, in cold weather, the charging time is much longer than it would be if it was hot..
