Essay / My Rules on the Path to Success - 1293
Chapter 1: Making the Most of Many Mentors. “A wise man told me: “You can't find mentors; mentors find you” (Bliwas 17 years old). While I was in the process of applying to San Diego State University, I found myself confused about which university I wanted to attend; that's until then I met a wonderful person, my high school counselor. This woman is the wisest woman you have ever met; not only did she encourage me to apply to San Diego State University, but she was always there for me, she was more like a sister to me. As the days passed, I began to enjoy spending time with her and helping her with her work during school hours as well as outside of school. I knew I could trust her because she had a similar childhood to mine and she understood where I was coming from; no matter what I did wrong or right, she would always support my decisions and encourage me to do better; she gave me lessons about life, she helped me solve every problem I had, she was my guide to success and shared with me her wisdom on how to be successful. I will always be grateful to my mentor who reminded me to never give up, no matter how difficult the situation. Chapter 2: Trust your instincts. At Metro they give me middle of paper......rowth.Chapter 10: Overcoming Straight Line Thinking “Many people think of careers as a straight line, a linear progression from job to job . . They assume that with each job they will gain experience and expertise, preparing them for a better job next time..." (Bliwas 103) as the book says, we as students C, we should at least expect, but believe in ourselves and that we are capable of succeeding. In the career I want to work for, the skill set is very rigid, and perhaps becoming a probation officer might take longer than expected; many obstacles may come in my way and I may have to work on something else that has nothing to do with what I want to do. I may not even like the career I choose, and I may have to explore it until I find one I am most comfortable with until I I'm coming to the end of the journey and I'm doing what I love most..
