Essay / Unhealthy Habits in the Greek Community at USC
Greek life and partying are part of the UNO college experience. Last fall, Arizona State University students flocked to campus for the USC vs. ASU football game. However, very few came to watch the football match itself. They came to experience the famous parties organized in my Greek life at USC. This is not an isolated case. USC Greek life is proud of the reputation it has built. Thursday night parties are known not only as epic among USC students, but also among the university community as a whole. However, the partisan culture at USC has grown out of control. The number of students taken to hospital every weekend is completely unacceptable and must be drastically reduced. Although the University has placed restrictions on Greek life activities, the health and well-being of students remains incredibly at risk as USC turns a blind eye to underage drinking, hazing, eating disorders, peer pressure, lack of sleep and overall mental instability among Greeks. community. Regardless of the trivial “rules at play,” unhealthy habits within sororities and fraternities continue to flourish while the university fails to adequately protect the health and well-being of Greek Trojans. With almost a third of the student population participating in Greek life. , it is certainly a presence on campus and an unmissable aspect. This is a highly selective community filled with an elite group of students. Greek organizations play a role in improving their surrounding community through service projects and philanthropy. They completed a total of 29,200 hours of community service and raised more than $215,000 during the 2009-2010 academic year. Sorority and fraternity projects included volunteering middle of paper ......o peer pressure. It’s hard to refuse the pressure to party harder and “keep up.” So, students give in and drink even when they no longer feel like it. It’s about starting a conversation within the leadership of the Greek community and inspiring students to want to make it a better, safer place for everyone. USC needs to engage with its students regarding party safety. A major role in reducing excessive drinking within the Greek community comes from student responsibility. Students must see the negative effects of their behavior and be motivated to make a change. Change only happens when it affects someone personally; therefore, to bring about permanent change, USC must personalize its relationships with students with genuine concern for student well-being and students must take personal responsibility for their own health and safety..
