Essay / Essay on Buddhism - 1098
During special holidays, such as the Lunar New Year, my family attended several Vietnamese temples. We lit incense and prayed to different Buddhas in each temple, because each Buddha represented a different need of ours. In these temples, we would be fed vegetarian meals to promote the days we are supposed to not eat meat, every half and full moon. (insert source here) We would also donate to the monks who support the temple and these traditions. Similar to Buddhist rituals, there are chants taken from a Bible that are recited in Vietnamese. There are different songs for different occasions. For example, many of these songs can be read to help orient or calm down. However, there is also a song specially designed for the death of someone, in which the grieving family must say in order to spiritually guide them to a better afterlife, karma. The Bible also presents the story of Buddha and how he achieved enlightenment. Along with the story of Buddha, there are also passages that explain the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold.
