Life's exasperated people have taught me so much. I started my own riding lesson program at the age of 14, which continued to grow as I got older. In June 2011, I opened my own horse boarding, training and lessons barn just a stone's throw from my parents' house. I quickly learned how things work in the world. I learned about paying my bills on time, how to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds, I learned about liability insurance, how to run a business and networking. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way. The bills didn't disappear just because I didn't open the mail. People saw my age first, which made some career transitions difficult. You are not always covered by your parents' health insurance when you are injured due to property, making it essential to have your own liability insurance. Running a horse boarding, training and lesson business is more than just physical work, it's a lot of paperwork. Networking is essential in the business world, the more you advertise, network with other people and businesses in the area, the more able you are to find help and answers when needed. The way things work will always be an area I can learn and grow in because everything is constantly changing.
