Often, disenfranchisement is demonstrated in various locations around the world. Although it is sad, people face tragedies every day that cause them to lose the things most important to them. For example, when the earthquake hit Haiti, the Haitian people lost everything they considered valuable. After facing many obstacles, the Haitian people had to face the deprivation of their rights, their pride and their property; there is an endless amount of literature referencing the tragedies that have occurred in Haiti and how these accidents have affected the lives they have to live. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world; the country also has a low economic status. Over time, Haiti's economy grew gradually by about 2.3 percent per year, but fell sharply after the disastrous disaster ("Economy of Haiti"). Due to the lack of land and basic necessities, Haiti's agricultural economy does not have the resources necessary to improve Haiti's economic situation. The population of Haiti today is made up of approximately ten million people, on average each person lives on approximately two dollars per day ("Haiti"). In Haiti, the financial situation continues to be brutally influenced by the rising prices of humanitarian supplies, the rapidity of natural disasters and the weakness of the economy experienced by the country (“Haiti”). From the 1700s to the present, around twenty major natural disasters have occurred in Haiti, each causing significant destruction to the country (Bob Corbett, Disasters in Haiti). Until the 2010 earthquake, researchers found that there was a time when Haiti was working to create a junction (Catherine Rampell, Haiti's Economy).
