  • Essay / A Life-Changing Event - 937

“A Life-Changing Event” Many life-changing events have been important and have helped me become stronger. One of these events particularly marked me and had the greatest impact on my life. When I was in high school, I never focused on studies, but only on sports and having fun with my friends. I never paid attention for more than five seconds and failed to complete any type of work assigned to me. My lack of care in high school caused me to attend a four-year university, play sports in college, and take remedial classes. First of all, when grades are bad, it is extremely difficult to get into a four-year university. I sat through all of my forty-five minute classes doodling, telling jokes, and just trying to distract everyone from their studies. I found every way to get into trouble and my grades basically reflected that. At most four-year colleges, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA. In my case, my GPA was so low that the options weren't even there at all. I was destined for community college, but I didn't want to admit it, so I kept doing what I was doing, failing. Additionally, at most four-year colleges, you must take the SATs and receive the score they require. I signed up for the SATs and paid for them, but I didn't take it because I decided that going to the beach with my friends was much more important to me. Four-year colleges also want to see that you have participated in extra-circular activities and clubs. I had no problem playing sports, but when it came to any type of club, I didn't want to be any part of it. Colleges also have access to your disciplinary record and any problems you may have encountered. Needless to say, my disciplinary file took up a few binders...middle of a sheet......I'll be serious. . I am in the process of finishing all of these courses and more so that I can leave BCC as soon as possible to attend a four year college. My entire high school experience was one of the best times of my life for me, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped. I had as much fun as I could and for me that's still the case, that's who I am. I like to live my life in the moment and get the most out of everything I do. I guess you could say I've changed that mentality slightly, now I pay a lot more attention and strive to do better in my studies. If I had the choice to go back and change things in high school, I honestly wouldn't do it. There are many memories, good and bad, that will last a lifetime. Now that I'm taking credit courses, I pay attention, I take notes, and I do well on tests. I think I will end up doing very well and achieving my goal of getting out of BCC.
