In Islam, marriage is a contract between two people. It is necessary that a certain amount of money be given to the bride. This idea of dowry derives from the Arabic word; Mahr. Additionally, like Christianity and Judaism, Islam is strict on the concept of chastity. This is the element of remaining pure. Whereas marriage in Islam is hidden by sexual intercourse, which is clear from the world's root in Arabic meaning marriage. The Arabic word Nikah can be translated as marriage and “sexual intercourse”. We see in Islam a very reciprocal marriage, we see the concept of equality within the couple. This is advocated when considering divorce in Islam. Divorce is not forbidden like Christianity where there must be an annulment. The Muslim faith recognizes marriage as a “transaction” in some sense. There is a contract that must be fully agreed to by both husband and wife, and two Muslims must be present to witness it. Once the contract is signed and the decision regarding the Mahr is made, a marriage ceremony can take place. The wife does not necessarily need to be present when the contract is signed, but the bride tends to be present. The Quran places great importance on marriage and permits the presence of a person who desires to have sexual relations. In fact, if you complete the marriage contract, you have essentially completed half of your faith in Islam. Additionally, the Quran continues to describe certain things that must happen in a marriage. It even states that a Muslim man can marry either a Muslim woman or a woman from the People of the Book. The People of the Book are called the Kitabi in Islam. An annulment will be issued in the event of any type of abuse in the relationship. However, the Catholic Church will first try to save what remains of the marriage before allowing the couple to divorce. Marriage is considered a relationship that will last until death, which is why the couple will be separated. Unlike Islam, the Bible does not contain a definitive answer to the question of Jesus' marriage. Finally, the Christian faith does not allow same-sex marriage.
