It is because of these allusions to Cain that Grendel's mother is expressed in such an unholy image, and it is because of this image ungodly that Beowulf is capable of giving himself the power of a normal human to superhuman. With the defeat of Grendel and his mother, Beowulf becomes a divine figure throughout the land, as he also considers himself a God. By using Grendel's mother as the trophy that gives Beowulf his superhero status, the author also gives a warning to all women not to test the man's power. Beowulf is not just a story, it is history. Through his characters and the summary of the story, the author reveals what society was like at the time. The men were strong, the women weak. Honor and courage brought heroism, and heroism brought power. This is, however, not just an expression of opinion from Beowulf's time, but a reflection of the world we live in today. Women have a different vision in today's society, a more powerful vision.
