  • Essay / Too Much Control from the US Government - 834

The government oversteps its bounds in many ways, angering many people. Drone use and phone calls are constantly monitored and spied on by citizens of the United States. They are also trying to take away our Second Amendment right to bear arms. These actions cause the American people to lose confidence in their own government. If they continue like this, they will lose many people who supported them and their decisions. The government may want to focus on bigger issues, like people or countries that threaten our security, rather than going after American citizens. The government wants to impose restrictions on the ownership of certain firearms, such as rifles. It is said that if the United States reduces the number of guns owned by civilians, the rate of gun crimes will decrease. This couldn't be further from the truth: a study published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy proves that countries with very strict gun control laws commit significantly more crimes than countries with few or no gun control regulations. (Small) Just to further support this theory; In the United States, people are 80 times more likely to use a gun to prevent a crime than to commit one. (Little) If strict gun control laws are implemented, an increase in crime and murder will most likely result. One of the most frightening views about gun control is that every country that massacred its own citizens disarmed them first. Adolf Hitler once said, “To conquer a nation, you must first disarm its citizens.” (Quotes) This in no way means that citizens of the United States will soon be killed by their own g...... middle of paper...... safer with people owning guns, so that doesn't make it logical for them to remove the weapons. They spy on us using drones and listen to our phone calls, denying both claims. The government can offer simpler solutions that would increase the level of security and privacy in our country and help many Americans regain confidence in their country's leader.
