This holiday season, will you be lining up for Black Friday deals? Black Friday is often seen as the epitome of consumerism, but it is actually an example of extreme and not typical everyday consumerism. In reality, consumerism has many aspects, some beneficial and others harmful to the population. To the extent that humans were created to consume, consumerism and Christianity are compatible, but only to the extent that consumerism does not become a fully materialistic pursuit. This is clearly demonstrated in large part by biblical standards, as we will see later. However, in order to understand how the ideologies of consumerism and Christianity are compatible, one must first understand consumerism. Consumerism can be difficult to define because there are a number of forms in which this worldview can manifest. These forms range from economic to selfish, from innovation to reductionism, and so on. Some are more beneficial to the world as a whole while others focus entirely on the individual alone. Although each aspect of consumerism may seem as different as north and south from each other, they all share a common basis.
