  • Essay / Risks and Limitations of Genetic Testing - 1021

People may have different reasons for using genetic testing. For some people it may be important to know whether or not they will be diagnosed with an illness in the future, others may want to know if the illness could be prevented or treated. Genetic testing is a type of medical test to identify changes in chromosomes, genes or proteins. The result of this test can indicate a person's risk of developing a genetic disease. In some cases, the cause of the illness may be unknown to the doctor. Genetic testing will also help them determine the cause of the disease and the possible cure. Different techniques are used on adults for genetic testing. The most common technique is the blood sample, it is mainly used in adults as a source of DNA. Blood samples are the most common method of genetic testing. Genesis will place the patient in a selected group where all people in that group will have their genome read by chemical letters. To start this process, a nurse will first draw blood from the patient and the sample will be sent to the Illumina company. They will process the blood and extract the genetic material. Proteins and fats are eliminated and fibers clump together. The goal of this process is to access the person's DNA, these fibers are the DNA. The DNA will be divided into fragments to obtain its sequence. DNA contains chemicals known by their first letters, ATC and G. A mutation or damaged genome indicates the type of disease the person has. After sequencing the decoded genome, genesis must figure out what it all means, comparing the patient's genome with thousands of others, primarily by the reference genome. If the genome is different, that could mean the change is unique to the patient. Other technology...... middle of paper ......e. It can help us take control of our own future. Relieving negative test results could eliminate any need for regular checkups, especially for people with a history of cancer in their family. A positive test result can direct a person towards possible treatment, monitoring or even prevention. There are some illnesses that doctors don't know what they are or how to treat them. Doctors are turning to genetics to find the cause, cure it and save the patient's life. Genetic reference at home. (2013). what are the risks and limitations of genetic testing.
