Essay / Video Game Consoles - 789
During the first and second generations of video game consoles, many electronics companies jumped on the console bandwagon. After all, they made products with the same parts. A year after the release of the PlayStation, Nintendo attempted to defeat the newcomer-turned-giant of the video game industry by releasing its own 3D gaming console, the Nintendo 64, but Nintendo stuck to the cartridge format, which inevitably led to his downfall. This is precisely why developers were attracted to the PlayStation (“History of the Sony PlayStation”). Before the release of the first PlayStation, Sony was never present in the video game market. Sony had made some attempts at creating things for computers, but when CD-ROM technology appeared, Sony was able to begin to gain market share. The origins of the PlayStation can be traced back to Nintendo, as Nintendo attempted to integrate disc-based software into its gaming hardware. Sony was the second company to introduce disc-based software into games, but even though it was the second , the PlayStation made disk-based software the most popular. The PlayStation was first released on December 3, 1994. As the PlayStation was slim, sleek, and had a revolutionary controller, Sony's console became hugely successful. Before companies became interested in disc-based gaming, game cartridges ruled the gaming industry, but Sony challenged this when they used discs in their new system. Gaming companies sometimes did not use disc software in their games because cartridges were cheaper, but the new CD technology that Sony incorporated into the PlayStation had increased storage space, allowing it to have better video and audio quality than other consoles of the time. 2 is a sixth generation video game console...... middle of paper ......ne, Sony had made extreme improvements to its product to make it one of the best-selling consoles today . As of May 2014, the PlayStation 4 had already sold more than 7 million consoles and more than 20.5 million games (Molina). While evolving every few years and continually adding new features in updates to the systems that could get them, the PlayStation has come a long way since its first release in 1994. If it weren't for the competition with other game system developers like Microsoft, Sega and Nintendo, Sony would not have come this far in the video game industry. The constant competition between different companies is the main reason why companies introduce new features in updates and in new systems. Sony PlayStation's latest model may be one of the best next-gen consoles, PlayStation 4 still has a long way to go.
