This is a significant threat even if it seems fun and there is not much to understand. Eddie's smile disappears and Marco displays a smile of triumph but also of warmth. This symbolizes a fight to come. But this first fight started because just as Rodolpho was discussing that he had cooking skills and could make dresses, Eddie, in anger, messed up his diary and then tore it up, further showing his growing suspicions to towards Rodolpho. It is the tension that gradually builds and reaches its climax at the end of the act with everyone on stage with the audience watching Marco threaten Eddie with one hand holding a chair above his head. The final scene, in which Eddie commits suicide with his own knife, is symbolic of the self-destructive nature that led to such an ending. It's the perfect explanation of action that speaks louder than language, the pressure on Eddie after this big impact threat is enormous. As his love for his niece grows stronger and stronger, he becomes even more desperate to have her, even if she is his own niece. Eddie Carbone is a representative of his class, of his background
