JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – the launch of a free trade pact between ASEAN and the six countries in the Phnom Penh region, Kamboja, Tuesday (20 /11/2012), including the services sector. Foreign workers from countries adhering to this pact are interested in working in ASEAN countries, including Indonesia. The free trade pact called the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership was launched on the last day of the 21st ASEAN High-Level Conference in Phnom Penh, November 15-20. Kompas journalists FX Laksana Agung Saputra, Wisnu Dewabrata and C. Wahyu Haryo PS, reporting from Phnom Penh on Tuesday, said the deal involves ASEAN member countries; China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and India. The ASEAN Plus 6 Compact is one of the world's largest free trade agreements. ASEAN Plus 6 has a gross domestic product (GDP) of approximately US$23 billion, or one-third of global GDP. In total, 3.5 billion people are involved in this trade agreement, or half of the world's population. ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan said the agreement is an umbrella that integrates five existing free trade agreements between ASEAN and its partners respectively. According to Surin Pitsuwan, the concept is a free trade partnership between ASEAN and the six regional partner countries, with ASEAN as the central element. Called comprehensive, among other things, because the scope of cooperation is not only limited to traffic, but also to investments, services and capacity building. The principle includes respecting the personalized framework according to each capacity of the national country.
