    Case management must believe in the autonomy of the client. We must engage in the process and we will implement the principles taught in order to achieve full client participation and accountability (Woodside and McClam, 2013). Medications aren't the only problem; the lifestyle that has debilitated them and left them on the streets must be addressed and the case manager must examine the history that brought the addict to their current situation. Those who suffer from abuse, mental illness, and/or trauma create a person who only knows how to cope with life by turning to substances to escape reality. When it comes to case management, working with the homeless drug population poses many challenges. This population has difficulty maintaining or following through on their goals. The main goal of social workers should therefore be to keep the lines of trust and communication open for better outcomes at all levels of treatment.
