    The phenomenon of video games is somewhat new in our modern society. Although it was intended for entertainment, in recent years the content has become more violent and disturbing. Due to the increasing popularity of these violent video games, there has also been an increase in controversy regarding the negative effects these games have on people's minds. Concerned parents and experts say these games are too violent, leading to demands that the government control sales of these games. However, it is also strongly believed that video games do not cause increased aggression in adolescents. What the media ignores are the many positive effects of video games that we don't find in other forms of media. Parents, experts, and others should stop being afraid of video games and instead try to consider the positive aspects of this underrated medium. Surveys show that 90% of children in the UK play video games and 70% of heads of household also play video games. This means that the average age of players is 33 years old (Bavelier, TED). Society is evolving and games are becoming not only a key part of entertainment, but also of children's education and development. Millennials, people born between 1978 and 2000 (Madland 2), grew up playing video games. These people mostly grew up playing arcade games and home video game systems, also known as platforms, such as Atari, Nintendo, Sega and PlayStation, and computers were already popular before to start school. These individuals were part of the technological revolution that followed games such as Pong (released by Atari in 1973) to the games we see today such as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and World of Warcraft. ...... middle of paper ......th these games are intended for children. Video game developers have integrated parental controls into their games to help worried parents limit their child's play time.
