“We must take care of Muslims and treat them as part of us. » This seems like a pleasant statement from Mr. Bal Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena party and supporter of the Hindutva movement, but it does little to disguise the villainous face of the Hindu nationalist movement he follows. This movement aims to protect India's interests by strengthening cohesion not only within the Hindu classes but also with other religious communities present in the country. However, this movement is associated with many controversies, among which the destruction of the Babri mosque, the transfer of land in Kashmir and the massacre of Christians in Orissa stand out, emphasizing that this movement is not intended to protect the Secular India, but to a secular “Hindu” state. The destruction of the Babri Mosque is a striking example of the direction the Hindutva movement wants to take India. The Babri Mosque made headlines in India in 1992. This fame is not due to its rich Mughal architecture, but to the propaganda of the country's far-right parties. These parties were none other than the Hindutvadis and included the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Bajrang Dal, the Shiv Sena and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). It was rumored that the land on which the mosque stood was the birthplace of Ram, a Hindu god. This sparked a huge reaction within the Hindu community, sparking demands from several segments for the destruction of the mosque (Chibber and Mehra 665). Eventually the mosque was destroyed by Hindu volunteers. These volunteers were known as Karsevaks. The parties not only mobilized the masses but also played a direct role in the incident.
