  • Essay / The difference between past and present views on...

From generation to generation, different methods of influencing, especially adults and young adults, have been used on the dangers of alcohol. In theater there are types of performance styles that have evolved over time and when this change occurs it is also the result of a change in society. There are many differences between Augusto Boal and Aristotle when it comes to theatrical presentation, but when you bring up some real cases and how they demonstrate each morally, you can show this contrast even more. One possible reasoning could certainly be the time period, and as I mentioned before, society has changed significantly over time. The objective of this essay will be to distinguish the difference between past and present views of alcohol through the effectiveness of theatrical influence. There are many differences in today's society compared to previous generations, especially when it comes to recreational alcohol consumption. The question asked is why the influence of alcohol consumption has changed over time, taking Boal and Aristotle as main examples. The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that theater should exist to provide a representation of the world's ideals. Although in most of "Aristotle's Poetics" he speaks primarily of tragedy and epic poetry, he nevertheless speaks of the spectators and the performers. It gives a decision on how performers should convey a message to an audience and how the audience should receive a given message. The basis of Aristotelian tragedy focuses on the representation of ideals, his vision of traditional mimesis. Which means he wants the audience to be able to recognize the ideals that people should strive for. He presents this in such a way that the scene...... middle of paper ......ances. The type of style demonstrated by Boal consists of a more interactive method of communication that allows the audience to interact with the artists to fully receive the message being delivered. Forum theater is the style of theater influenced by Augusto Boal. He describes this type of Western theater in his book entitled “Theater of the Oppressed”. This type of theater was designed to teach people how their world is changing. There seems to be a lack of appreciation on Aristotle's part for how art often advances precisely by overturning the supposed laws of a previous generation. In conclusion, there are many differences in today's society compared to previous generations, especially when it comes to recreational alcohol use by young adults. With the evolution of mentalities over time, it is necessary that the style of theater also changes..
