When Phoenix, Ajax and Odysseus visit Achilles to convince him to fight, Achille shows the power of friendship by listening to them and not taking his anger on them. Even though Achilles was angry with Agamemnon, he did not let his anger get to him when he saw his friends. Even though he rejected their offer, he still listened to them. Family is another relevant theme for the audience. From the family of Achilles to the family of Hector, certain characteristics show the importance of the family in the passage and in the larger economy. Achilles' mother prophesied about her son's future. He lets him know his future so that he can be aware of it. This shows how caring the family is and always looks out for each other. Another example is that of King Priam, Hector's father who wept freely and informed Achilles to fight for his son to be buried properly. This is similar to Salammbo when Salammbo returns to Matho to recover his veil even if it means putting his life in danger. These events lead to the text “And so the Trojans buried Hector the horsebreaker.” This text highlights the recognition and gratitude of the Trojans for being able to bury their own. Although Hectors was a skilled fighter, a “horse breaker,” he was not strong enough to stand up to the confident and murderous Achilles.
