Police officers enforce the law and therefore must be held to higher standards in order to earn the respect of the community. Once respect is established, a relationship is created and the community begins to cooperate and work with the police rather than against them. When police officers are held to higher standards, it keeps them on track. Describe some unethical behavior that exists within law enforcement and how this behavior should be addressed? In law enforcement by the police, there are various unethical behaviors that are adopted by the police in the discharge of their duties. These include the excessive use of force. Police officers sometimes apply excessive force beyond what is necessary to arrest a suspect, sometimes resulting in physical injury to the suspect. This is a common unethical practice by police that has caused physical injury to suspects and sometimes even resulted in death. Under the law, if the excessive force was unreasonable, then the police officer should be held responsible for the bodily injury caused to the officer.
